a photo of jackie cordinerCongratulations to Reading Teacher Jackie Cordiner on being named the FCPS 2018 Region 5 Outstanding Leader and one of five finalists for this year's FCPS Outstanding School-based Leader Award!

Ms. Cordiner is central to professional development at Canterbury Woods. As a reading specialist, she knows that student success depends on elevating the work of every teacher in the building. To do that, she’s led communitywide collaborative learning sessions and peer coaching, helping teachers to better work with children as they grow as readers. She relies on a deep knowledge of student data to identify those who need help and finds creative solutions to assist them. In the case of one struggling reader who didn’t qualify for accommodations, she recorded books for three years. “Ms. Cordiner,” a coworker said, “is quite literally the building touchstone for current best practices in the field.”

Congratulations also to First Grade Teacher Lauren Tredinnick who was recognized as an Outstanding Elementary Teacher School-level Recipient.

Thank you to Linda Szabo for all her hard work with the nomination process by serving as this year's awards liaison.
