Dear Canterbury Woods Elementary School Parents, Students, and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that Ms. Diane Leipzig has been selected to serve as the Principal of Canterbury Woods Elementary School, effective July 1, 2018. 

Ms. Leipzig, who has over 20 years of experience as an educator, most recently served as the educational specialist for dyslexia in the Instructional Services Department. In this position, she lead a multi-departmental team to support schools in implementing needs-based and innovative instructional practices for students in grades K-12. Ms. Leipzig has implemented a division dyslexia project plan, provided system-wide professional development, and served as the primary author of the online dyslexia handbook. She also served as the project lead for the universal screener implementation rollout to 141 elementary schools. Prior to her current position, Ms. Leipzig served as the assistant principal at Timber Lane Elementary School. She began her career in Fairfax County Public Schools as a reading resource teacher at Oak View Elementary School and later served as the reading resource teacher at Cunningham Park Elementary School. She has also worked as a preschool, first and second-grade multiage teacher, and a fourth-grade teacher. Leipzig received her Doctor of Philosophy in curriculum and instruction from the University of Maryland, a Master of Teaching in Elementary Education from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia. She holds a Virginia professional license and endorsements in teaching NK-8 and administration and supervision for grades PreK-12.
